Five unions – now we are seven
The five unions that formed Fellesforbundet in 1988 are the Norwegian Union of Iron and Metal Workers, the Norwegian Union of Building and Construction Workers, the Norwegian Union of Paper Industry Workers, the Norwegian Union of Forestry and Agricultural Workers, the Norwegian Union of Clothing Workers. The sixth union, the Norwegian Union of Graphical Workers was incorporated in Fellesforbundet on 1 January 2006, and the seventh, the Norwegian Hotel- and restaurant Workers Union on 1 June 2007.
Traditions
The seven unions that joined forces to form Fellesforbundet have long traditions. The Norwegian Union of Graphical Workers was the first union to be established in Norway and the Nordic countries, as early as 1882. The Union of Clothing Workers was formed in 1890, and the Norwegian Union of Iron and Metal Workers was established the following year, in 1891.

Fellesforbundet is the largest LO-affiliated union in the private sector. We have offices all over Norway! We have a nationwide network of 17 district offices and numerous divisional offices. The union has 150 employees and an equally large number of representatives at our different divisions make sure that you receive help when you need it. Many of our divisions have an interpreter service for members who do not speak Norwegian.
